DART was founded by Paul de Montille, a safari guide of many years experience, and also the holder  of a Dangerous Drugs Licence, which allows him to dart animals under permit. Paul led a team of  colleagues with a similar passion for wildlife for many years, and formed liaisons with Parks and researchers which allowed DART to progress to the level and standard reached today.

In 2008, Paul teamed up with Trevor Lane, a safari operator with years of experience, as Trevor could provide management and back up, essentially to take DART to a higher level as the demand for it’s services had increased.

DART has a base near Hwange Main Camp – a house where volunteers are lodged and from which we operate into the southern end of the Park focusing on snare removals and Lion Research.

DART also has a base and accommodation at Sinamatela Camp in the north of the Park, where efforts are concentrated on the Black Rhino. The operation here is run by Stephen & Sue Long our Rhino experts.

DART operates throughout the year, modifying it’s program to the rainy season (November to April), as the research work and protection is required at all times.
